Data Visualisation Book
Design Brief - To create a data visualization series with a narrative essay on Police Brutality in America. Produced as a cohesive small book, the format is similar to a thesis book with a written text that includes data visualizations.
The concept of the thesis book was to provide a minimum of six visualizations, some of which showed a single component (like ranking by size or age) and one that showed a correlation.
The dataset was sourced from fatalencounters.org. In addition to this, a common title and a unique subtitle had to be added. The subtitle gave focus to the title, described the point of view of the visualizations, and explored the narrative.
The above image is the cover page of the book. The title of the book is “A Brief History of Police Brutality” and the chosen subtitle, “Not Invisible Anymore” perfectly captures the intended message of boldness and the transformative nature of the visualizations and narratives explored within the book. It highlights the pivotal shift from silence to acknowledgment, shedding light on the previously unseen and underserved issue of police brutality.
